You may notice that your child may be using new and unfamiliar apps, games and social sites. It is important that you monitor your child's activities on these sites. You can do this by setting rules around use of ICT. For example negotiating on times when it is acceptable and unacceptable to use. This way you can monitor the use of ICT to ensure they are making positive choices. If there are set protocols in place students will begin to understand the importance of remaining safe when using ICT. To ensure children are able to remain safe from possible dangers you should also discuss with your child the dangers of ICT. Some dangers include things that seem too good to be true or a suspicious unknown person attempting to make contact. To defuse such dangers students can simply exit, avoid and notify an adult of the issue. Students need to become aware that there are basic safety rules which need to be considered when using ICT. Also remember to install internet security and change privacy settings to get the best security for your child. ICT isn't all scary, it can be a vibrant arena for great learning and social interaction and are the way of the future. Some simple checks and changes can help you realise that these medium are not as scary as they appear.
